I’m only citing songs with “pity” in the title here, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that the late, great country songwriter and singer Don Gibson has no peer when it comes to making records about feeling sorry for one’s self.

With a catalog that that includes “O Lonesome Me,” “Lonesome #1,” Sea of Heartbreak,” “Give Myself a Party” and “I Can’t Stop Loving You,” big Don was the King of self pity.

Here’s the Pop Stand list. Please add more titles if you can think of them.

I Pity the Fool — Bobby “Blue” Bland

Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me — Linda Ronstadt

Town Without Pity — Gene Pitney

Isn’t It a Pity — George Harrison

Mr. Pitiful — Otis Redding

I Pity the Poor Immigrant — Bob Dylan

Pity Pity — Paul Anka

Pity Party — Melanie Martinez

No Pity (In the Naked City) — Jackie Wilson
