I was lucky to catch the last of Newsday's glory days. When I started, we had the fifth biggest circulation in America, newsrooms in Manhattan and Queens as well as out on the island, and bureaus in five international cities. I left in 2006 when they started buyouts in the face of declining revenue because of internet inroads. Where in Alabama are you? My wife and I are in Athens, far from the reach of Florida TV. But I have Florida connections, too. The Orlando Sentinel was my first journalism gig.
