This edition of Pop Stand is dedicated to my Aunt Nell, one of the most positive, adaptable humans I’ve ever known.

For a few years when she was in her 20s, she had to wear prescription corrective shoes for a foot problem. They were, in a word, ugly, and she hated them. Yet Nell’s attitude, true to her spirit, was, “If you have a smile on your face, nobody notices your shoes.”

Smile? Hmm. That’s a good heading for a future Pop Stand.

Today it’s foot notes. Add titles if you can and are so inclined.

I Bought You the Shoes — Al Kooper

“That you’re walking away in/The bright royal blues/That you’re going astray in”

Those Shoes — The Eagles

High Heeled Sneakers — Tommy Tucker

Barefootin’ — Robert Parker

Tan Shoes and Pink Shoelaces — Dodie Stevens

Mississippi Mud — Paul Whiteman’s Rhythm Boys (featuring Bing Crosby)

“It’s a treat to beat your feet on the Mississippi mud”

Footloose — Kenny Loggins

Happy Feet — Cab Calloway
