A Pop Stand playlist for a peak musical experience

So much of the delightful pop music from last century is slipping into obscurity. Our popular culture gets more disposable all the time.

I’d love it if there were a themed oldies podcast or weekly hour on public radio — Pop Stand? — that would introduce vintage hits and oddities to a new audience.

Anybody got an idea how to make this a reality?

Here’s a sample playlist for one installment. I have scores. I call this particular pod “Mountaineering.”

Please add songs to the playlist if you can in the comments section. There are more, for sure. These are mostly off the top of my head.

Wolverton Mountain — Claude King

Gilgarry Mountain — Peter, Paul & Mary

Rocky Mountain High — John Denver

Ain’t No Mountain High Enough –Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell

Go Into the Mountains — Trini Lopez

Mountain of Love — Harold Dorman

The Big Rock Candy Mountain — Burl Ives

The Mountain’s High — Dick & Dee Dee

Gonna Build a Mountain — Sammy Davis Jr.

Climb Every Mountain — Shirley Bassey

First There Is a Mountain — Donovan

River Deep, Mountain High — Ike & Tina Turner

The Bear Went Over the Mountain — Captain Kangaroo & Mr. Greenjeans
